Writing Kidlit for the Educational Market: What It Is And How to Pursue It
Join us on Zoom Saturday, May 6, 2023, 9:00 AM–12:00 PM Pacific
Do you want to learn more about writing books for the children’s educational market but feel overwhelmed by the thought of figuring out where to look and what to actually do? Yes? Then this class is for you.
During a zero-stress, info-rich session, we will pull back the curtain on the contract writer’s various roles in children’s publishing while placing such dry (but important) terms as write-for-hire(WFH), educational/school-and-library publisher, book packager, intellectual property, readability, and curriculum standards in proper context. It’ll be fun!
We will discuss qualifications, hiring practices, writer guidelines, and schedules using mock WFH book projects as models. And, of course, we’ll demystify best-practice strategies for breaking into this specialized kidlit-writing niche. As a participant, you will come away with a clear sense of how this type of work works, as well as whether it seems like a good fit for your interests.
After the live virtual event, all confirmed registrants will receive access to a replay and a downloadable PDF containing resources and exercises referenced in the presentation.
