Join us on Zoom Saturday, October 9, 2021, at 10:00 AM PDT to welcome critically acclaimed author Candace Fleming as our special guest for the first Professional Series meeting of SCBWI WWA’s 2021–2022 season. You won’t want to miss this expert’s take on the current state of the children’s nonfiction industry.

Nonfiction for Kids: Where Are We Now?

It’s an exciting time for nonfiction in the children’s book world. But editors’ tastes and publishers’ lists change rapidly. What’s hot, and what’s not? We’ll take an up-close look. We’ll also examine what editors say they’re looking for, and ways you can fit their bill. There will be time for questions.

This keynote is FREE and open to all. Confirmed registrants will receive a link to join the meeting by the evening of October 7, 2021. Can’t make the live event? Not to worry, as registrants also receive access to a replay once the recording is ready (usually within a few days of the talk).

Candace Fleming is the author of more than forty books. Among her nonfiction titles are Giant Squid, Amelia Lost: The Life and Disappearance of Amelia Earhart, and The Family Romanov: Murder, Rebellion, and the Fall of Imperial Russia. Her 2020 titles include The Rise and Fall of Charles Lindbergh, which won the 2021 YALSA Excellence in Nonfiction, and Honeybee: The Busy Life of Apis Mellifera, winner of the 2021 Sibert Medal. She is also the recipient of the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, as well as a two-time recipient of the Boston Globe/Horn Book Award for Nonfiction, the ALA Sibert Honor, and SCBWI’s Golden Kite Award.
