Nonfiction Series Webinar: Writing Memoir for MG & YA Readers

Date(s) - 06/28/2021
8:00 am - 9:15 am

Music, movies and fashion take us back to our own youth — but how can we bring a younger generation into our past? Where should your memoir begin? How should it end? What’s an “inciting incident” or a “climax” when you’re looking at your life? Maybe you’ve got a big, messy pile of personal history to sharpen and focus. Or something amazing happened, but you’re not sure it’s big enough for a whole book. And what, exactly, do publishers, librarians, and our young readers want to buy?

This keynote presentation by Allison K Williams will cover publishing trends in Middle Grade and YA memoir, and how to know if your story is suitable for your age group. She’ll discuss key elements of a memoir proposal, and how to find the best agents and publishers to represent your work. And finally, she’ll share what you should be reading, watching, and listening to now, to discover what young readers need from your story.

This FREE virtual talk will be presented via Zoom Monday, June 28, 2021, at 8:00 AM Pacific. Registration is required.

All confirmed registrants will receive an email containing the Zoom-access information ahead of the event. Several days after the live presentation, you will also receive access to a replay of the talk.

Want even MORE kidlit memoir content? Consider participating in our intensive Master Class: Writing As and For Your Younger Self. It’s set for June 28 at 9:30 AM PDT, directly following this foundational talk. A limited number of Roundtable Consultations on June 29 are also available.
