Writing Dialogue in YA Romance: Witty Banter, Meet Cute and Slow Burn

 

What is the trick to laugh-out-loud romcom banter? What makes a meet cute…well, cute? ​​​​How do you keep those sparks flying between your main characters? This workshop will provide tips, examples, and writing exercises to help you craft sparkling/adorable/intense dialogue in your YA romance novel!

Diana Ma is a Chinese American author of Young Adult and Middle Grade books and teaches at North Seattle College. Her debut novel Heiress Apparently was a 2021 Washington State Book Award finalist in Young Adult Literature. Diana was also a 2019 We Need Diverse Books mentee and is a Highlights Foundation Muslim Storytellers Fellow. She is represented by Christa Heschke and Daniele Hunter of McIntosh and Otis and has a BA in Creative Writing from the University of Washington and an MA with a Creative Writing focus from the University of Illinois, Chicago.
